Bolton’s Early life and Career
Born on November 20, 1948, in Baltimore, Bolton is the son of Virginia Clara ’Ginny’ a housewife, and Edward Jackson, a Baltimore City Fireman. He won a Scholarship to the Mc Donough School in Owing’s Mills, Maryland and graduated in the year 1966. In the year 1964, he ran the school’s students fo the Goldwater Campaign.
In the year 1970, Bolton attended Yale University and earned a BA graduating from Summa Cum Laude. He attended the Yale’s Law school in between 1971 to 1974 with his friends Clarence Thomas and also received a JD in the year 1974.
In the year 1972, Bolton was hired as a Summer Intern for Vice President Spiro Agnew by David Keene.

Bolton was an Associate at the Washington DC office of Covington and Burling from the year 1974 to 1981. Again he returned to the firm between 1983 to 1985. He was also a partner in the Law firm of Lerner, Reed, Bolton and McManus in between 1993 to 1999. He was ‘Of counsel’ in the Washington Office of Kirkland and Ellis from 2008 until john appointed as the National Security Advisor in the year 2018. Also, he was appointed as the Senior Advisor by Freedom Capital Investment Management in the year 2015.
While it was Reagan and George H.W Bush administrations, Bolton’s Governmental roles weer within the state department, the Justice Department and the US Agency for International Development.

Bolton as Under Secretary of State from 2001 to 2005
Bolton was the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, sworn this position on May 11 in 2001. The critical area of his responsibility in this particular role was the prevention of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Diplomatic Bolton
The ‘New Republic’ article says that Bolton was highly successful in pushing his agenda. But at the same time, he got many enemies because of his bluntness. And that’s the reason why Iran’s Foreign Ministry called him ‘rude’ and ‘undiplomatic’. And in response to the critic, Bolton stated that his record demonstrates clear support for effective multilateral diplomacy.
Cuban WMD Program
In the year 2002, Bolton accused Cuba at the Heritage Foundation of having a secret Biological Weapons Program and also of collaborating with Libya and Iran. For which, Bolton asserted that the US believes that Cuba has a limited offensive biological warfare research and development effort. And that Cuba has provided dual biotechnology to other rogue states.
The State Department’s chief Bioweapon analysist refused the accusation made in the speech by stating that the State Department did not have the evidence to substantiate the Bolton’s allegation.
In the year 2004, Bolton again accused Cuba of being a terrorist and a threat to the USA. And the experts at the time disputed the veracity of Bolton’s claim saying that the evidence in support of the application was weak.
Criticism.
Henry Waxman, Democratic Congressman alleged that Bolton played a role in encouraging the inclusion of a statement that the British Intelligence had determined Iraq attempted to procure yellowcake Uraniumfrom Niger in Bush’s 2003 State of the Union Address. All these statements were claimed by critics of the President to be partly based on documents found to be forged. Waxman’s allegations were based on classified documents and hence could not be confirmed.
Bolton has been accused a lot of times attempting to pressure the intelligence community to endorse his views.
United Nations Ambassador from 2005 to 2006
Bolton was nominated as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations by President George W Bush. And As a result of Democratic filibuster, he was appointed for the post on August 1 2005. His nominations received strong support from the Republicans.
Punditry and Conservative Activism
Bolton was the Executive Director of the Committee on Resolutions in the Republican National Committee for one year from 1983 to 1984.
Bolton worked as the Assistant to James Baker from the year 1997 to 2000 when he was the UN secretary-general envoy to Western Sahara.
Political positions
Bolton declared himself as ‘Goldwater Conservative’ in an interview with Edward Luce of the Financial Times in the year 2007. He was also a follower of Edmund Burke according to some reports.
Unilateralism and Americanism
Bolton is very sceptical of the International organisations and international law. And he believed them to be endangered American Sovereignty, and he does not think that they have legitimate authority under the US Constitution.
Bolton also prefers Unilateralism over multilateralism in the article, ‘Chicago Journal of International Law’. Bolton described himself as ‘Convinced Americanist’ more than ‘Globalism’. Bolton has always been more pragmatic in his actions towards International Organisations according to Foreign policy.
Bolton’s Personal life
Bolton is married to Gretchen Smith Bolton, who is a financial planner with AXA Advisors. And they have a daughter ‘Jennifer’. They live in Bethesda, Maryland and he is a Lutheran.
