As a teen, Potts discovered his love for singing. Potts was a member of several church choirs while growing up. And singing was something that always offered him solace. After his high school graduation, Potts began performing opera with Bath opera that is an amateur Company at the very young age of nineteen with the group. Also, he played the roles of Herald and the Prince of Persia in the Giacomo Puccini’s ‘Turnadot’. Soon after this, He played the lead role in ‘Marriage of Figaro’ in 2000. To make a name for himself, he starred as ‘Don Carlos’ in ‘Don Carlos’ in the year 2001, ‘Don Otavvio’ in ‘Don Giovanni’ in the year 2003 and ‘Radames’ in ‘Aida’ 2003. More than everything that he has mentioned, Pott’s have also participated in the making of a soundtrack for ‘Queen Seondeok that is a Korean drama in which he sang as two of the principal characters. Potts received widespread recognition as a Tenor musician when he won the popular Talent show ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ in the year 2007 even though he had several years of experience in the singing career. His stage performance, ‘Nessun Dorma’ had blown everyone away. Not only this, but he also got a standing ovation from over 2000 audience members – a stunning feat. Potts was announced as the winner after receiving the highest percentage of votes during the final finale of the series along with ‘Connie Talbot’ in the sing-off. Potts also released his debut studio album entitled, ‘One Chance in the summer of 2007’, after signing with Columbia Records. Paul Pott’s Early Life
Paul Robert Potts, son of Roland Potts and Yvonne Higgins, a bus driver and a supermarket employee. He has three siblings – a sister and two brothers. He was raised in the Bristol neighborhood of Fishponds. He was in St. Mary Redcliffe and Temple School located in the Red Cliffe district as a young teen. During that time only, he discovered his love for music and singing. Potts also participated in the number of choruses during his youth. He also sang with several famed Christ Church.
He was often bullied at school, so singing has always offered him Solace in all his tough times. Potts did several jobs to support himself financially including working at Tesco and Waitrose at one point. He also worked at Debenhams, a Retail Department store. Later, to pursue the college degree, He went to the University of St. Mark and St. John in Plymouth, England, from where he then attained a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Humanities. Potts was elected as a Liberal Democrat Councillor at the age of twenty-six and became the youngest member of City Council and he ultimately served for seven years until 2003.
Paul’s Eventual singing Career
Paul also performed with a small ensemble from the Royal Philharmonic in front of over 15,000 audience members. Not only this, but he also toured Italy as a solo musician at one point. Potts even worked on the soundtrack for Queen Seondeok that is a Korean drama in which he sang for the two lead characters.
Finally, he had the opportunity to work with the world-famous soprano, ‘Hayley Westenra’ in the duet ‘Sei Con Me’ which was later featured in her studio.
Britain’s Got Talent
Working as a car salesman at ‘The Carphone Warehouse’, Potts also auditioned for the new talent competition series, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ – the brainchild of a Television producer, Simon Cowell. One of the auditions that were broadcasted on the ITV Network on June 9, 2007, he also performed a condensed rendition of Puccini’s Nessun Dorma for which he received critical applause and Standing Ovation. He earned nods from the entire Judges panel. Later a video clip of his audition was uploaded onto Youtube has been viewed over 149 million times. HE effectively made it one of the most-watched videos on the website.
Potts was proven to be a worthy contender of the show which was aired on June 14, 2007. Potts also sang a condensed version of ‘Time to say Goodbye by Andrea Bocelli’, which was warmly received by Judges and audience members. He also buzzed through the finals after receiving the highest public votes.
Paul Potts’ Musical Releases
‘One Chance’ a powerful debut was at number one on the UK charts where it remained for several weeks until mid-August. Right after a week of its release, it was certified as Gold in the UK for having sold over 13,000 copies. Since then, more than 3.5 million units have been sold.
Not only in UK Album charts but soon it entered the NewZealand Charts as well and the Canadian charts at number 10. Potts came out with the 3rd studio Album,’Cinema Paradiso’ on October 19, 2010, that was approximately forty-two minutes in length. It contained eleven classical pop/ rock tracks including Moon River, Para la Piu Piano, Forbidden Colours, Dove Non So, What a wonderful world, and Maria. While the albums did not end up reaching in his native UK Charts but it managed to reach in Austria, Canada, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark as well. It received mostly mixed reviews.
Paul’s recent Updates
The British Vocalist has not released any new albums recently though he is busy performing at the number of venues. He also participated in the Winter Dreams Tours alongside Anna Maria Kaufmann ab=nd the singing trucker. Before that, Potts, even performer at the PWndyrus Community Gala Concert that is an Annual Event that takes plav=ce in the valley every year.
Potts has a recent scare recently after being chased by the Police, as he explained further that he was panicked on the thought of getting arrested. But the policemen only wanted a selfie with the vocalist.
